I Power Systems Ltd Background

I Power Systems Ltd (in liquidation) was a solar panel installation company based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire who went into liquidation on 26th May 2015. The Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) had previously investigated them on a number of occasions, after selling solar PV systems that were underperforming.

Many consumers were provided with a credit facility from Creation Consumer Finance Ltd, whereby, the loan was to be repaid over 10 years, which left them seriously out of pocket from the onset, despite being told the systems would be self-funding.

Once Creation Consumer Finance Ltd became aware of the extent to which I Power Systems Ltd overstated the benefits of solar panels, and complaints from consumers multiplied quickly, they swiftly terminated their agreement with I Power. Shortly afterwards, I Power was placed into liquidation.

Exaggerated returns

I Power Systems Ltd systematically exaggerated the returns achievable, to convince purchasers that not only would they be helping to safeguard the future of our planet, but they would also be getting a substantial return on their investment.

After analysing the sales paperwork for our clients, not one of them was correctly shown the actual benefit of the system, and the documentation shown to consumers was very misleading. To make matters worse the sales personnel were paid purely on commission, so unless they sold a system when visiting consumers in their homes, they wouldn’t get paid.
